Nicholas Chistiakov is a Belarusian-American Artist whose oeuvre includes portraits, abstraction, animal paintings, still lifes, nudes, and more. Atypically, he does many different kinds of work and he does them all well. He studied painting at the Belarusian State Academy of Arts in Minsk; then emigrated to New York with his family (in 2004). His first mature work was a series of paintings depicting museum scenes—a conceptual/pictorial means of incorporating art history and the idea of the museum as a metaphor for human existence, where birth, death, life, and creativity are on display and engage in a complex dialogue.
